June 2014

  June was another exciting and successful month.  We learned about the interesting Mr. Q and his connection to Albany.  Amy came and told us about her Olympic experiences in Sochi.  We awarded scholarships  to 2 amazing and inspiring young men and finally we sent President Howard into ” retirement” in style.

May 2014

  Another very busy month for Albany Rotary.  Speakers included Rebecca from Waste Management and Penelope Leach the Albany City Manager.  Our own Rotarians gave interesting programs. Marla Stephenson gave a summary of the school district, Rania educated us about politics in Egypt  Marla and Reece Halpern were honored as Paul Harris Fellows and Pate Thomson, M.D. spoke of the first year of the Rotocare Clinic in Richmond. We provided dinner at the Albany Relay for Life and discovered a fantastic Rotary tattoo.

April 2014

  April was another busy month for Albany Rotary.  Speakers included Claire Griffing the City of Albany expert on all things green, an Albany High School graduate telling us about the Liver Foundation.  Todd and Bob’s Excellent Adventures in New Zealand kept us entertained one week. Fire Chief and fellow Rotarian Lance Calkins shared his experiences in the fire service.  We ended the month with our own Angela Mason telling us about her travels with her friend Howard Buffett.  If you wonder what happens when we don’t meet the minimum at lunch be reassured that the food doesn’t go to waste.  The folks at Harrison House are happy to share with us.

March 2014

  March was an extremely busy month for Albany Rotary.  Thanks to Angela we had interesting speakers: Reverend Julie, Barbara Lanier from PNCC and Marc Ross from MUSO.  March 18 was our 85th anniversary party.  Thank you Jason for letting us party at Mechanics Bank.  Such a great event with District Governor Steve Lack and Rotarians from other clubs coming to celebrate with us.

February 2014

February was a busy month with 2 new members being inducted.  Welcome Ray and Rania.  Speakers included former District Governor Laura Day speaking about Kenya Smiles, Tom Lupori, a forensic accountant, Kim Coles encouraging us to support Relay for Life, and Kevin McCormack from  CIRM, California Stem Cell Agency.  Long time member Erick was spotted by Ellen in the bank one day.
